ive been kind of quiet, relatively speaking, on this issue for some time so i guess i may as well write down what i believe (area boy to put to rest timeless question)
anyway, the traditional sense of God is certainly a farse. Believing in Jesus or any other "prophet" is akin to believing in the boogie man or the tooth fairy. Most of us turn 7 years old and realize that Santa Clause is a prank, except only some of us don't turn 15 and realize the same thing about God. I believe atheism (or at least the basic rejection of traditional establishments) is kind of an assumed base among smart people that does not need to be brought up. In fact, it's kind of unnecessary for me to be 20 and writing this, but whatever. If you're smart enough to get over a 1300 on your SAT's, you're also probably smart enough to realize the basic facts of life.
God is for the weak, the uneducated, the unwashed, the ignorant, the impoverished, the stupid. A perfect tool to hold the majority back from the few. Simple as that.
Anyway, I don't mean to come across as so antagonistic or venomous. I have plenty of friends who believe in God. Not to say I don't secretly look down on them. Regardless, they won't be joining the smart peoples' club anytime soon.
